It’s Illegal to Pump Your Own Gas (yes, really)
Oregon and New Jersey are the two states where you are not allowed to pump your own gas. So don’t be surprised if you pull up to a gas station and find an attendant waiting to fill your tank for you. This has been banned since 1951 and has some exceptions. If your car or truck uses diesel or you are driving a scooter or motorcycle then you can pump your own gas. Additionally, the state has instituted exceptions for certain areas, such as remote, rural regions, and tribal lands.
